Sibos 2023: A look back at the key themes

Sibos, the world’s largest financial services event, returned to Toronto last month. The conference brought together more than 9,000 delegates from across the globe. The theme for this year’s conference was “Collaborative finance in a fragmented world,” reflecting the key challenges facing the financial community today.

During the four-day event, speakers and panelists discussed a wide range of topics, including:

• The impact of AI on the financial sector
• The rise of digital currencies and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs)
• The focus on ESG (environmental, social, and governance) investing
• Cyber security and compliance challenges
• Ways to improve the efficiency and transparency of cross-border payments

Day One

GSS representative Stuart Mitchell joined Swift on their stand to demonstrate the RFI Solution built with Swift and Appian. The solution is designed to help financial institutions to respond to sanctions requests for information more efficiently and effectively.

Later that evening, GSS hosted a social drinks event at their stand. The event was an excellent opportunity for delegates to network and learn more about GSS’ sanctions screening solutions.

Day Two

On day two, our CCO Edward Thurman participated in a panel discussion on industry collaboration in the fight against financial crime. The panel discussed the importance of collaboration between financial institutions, regulators, and technology providers to combat financial crime more effectively.

GSS and Appian also gave a demonstration on the Appian stand. The demonstration showcased how GSS’ solution can help financial institutions to comply with sanctions regulations and reduce the risk of financial crime.

Day Three

On day three, Edward Thurman and GSS’ CTO Stuart Mitchell gave a presentation on re-inventing sanctions screening. The presentation discussed the challenges facing the sanctions screening industry and how GSS’ solutions can help financial institutions to overcome these challenges.

Our Head of Client Success, Praveen Jain also participated in an engaging panel discussion on generative AI. The panel discussed the potential of generative AI in the financial sector. Praveen highlighted the potential of generative AI to be used to improve the effectiveness of sanctions screening.

Conclusion

Sibos 2023 was a great opportunity to learn about the latest trends and developments in the financial services industry. GSS was proud to be a part of this event and to showcase our entry into financial services. We are grateful to all the delegates who visited our booth.
